Phu Suan Sai NP

Phu Suan Sai is a small pleasant park in the hills of Loei province. We stay in park accommodation which is basic but enjoyable. There are a few birds here which are either not known elsewhere in Thailand or easier to find here: Blue-naped Pitta, Rufous-throated Fulvetta, Short-tailed Parrotbill and Indochinese Yuhina.
A nature trail runs through bamboo and evergreen forest which with a section of the park road forms a loop about 2km long. There are also some trails leading up to the top of the mountain but we have not walked those yet as they are very steep and mainly go through bamboo.
We usually stay for two nights which gives us a fair chance to find a couple of these rare birds.
